Fitness and weight loss apps have been a mainstay for individuals looking to improve their health and lifestyle. In the second quarter of 2024, the US market showed interesting trends in app usage across both iOS and Android platforms. Data provided by Sensor Tower gives us a glimpse into how these apps fared in terms of downloads, revenue, and weekly active users.

Strava: Run, Bike, Hike, a popular choice for tracking various physical activities, saw its revenue fluctuate between $2M and $2.9M, ending the quarter on a slight uptick. Downloads varied, peaking at nearly 2.3M in late April, while weekly active users showed a generally stable trend, staying within the 16K to 19K range throughout the quarter.

Google Fit: Activity Tracking remained a staple for activity tracking without generating revenue. Downloads spiked to over 4K in late April, followed by a gradual decline. The weekly active users count started strong at 9.5K but experienced a peak of 19K, before closing the quarter just above 10K.

Mi Fitness (Xiaomi Wear) also reported no revenue but maintained a consistent base of weekly active users, starting at 15K and reaching a peak of 15.7K. Downloads saw a gradual decrease from 1.2M at the beginning of the quarter to around 747K by the end.

Step Counter - Pedometer, with its focus on counting steps, generated minimal revenue, ranging from $6 to $24 per week. The app experienced a high of 1.7M downloads at the start of the quarter, but this figure dipped to just under 500K by the end. Weekly active users saw a significant drop from 24.7K to 18.1K over the same period.

komoot - hike, bike & run, catering to outdoor enthusiasts, showed variable revenue, starting at $751K and experiencing both dips and rises throughout the quarter. Downloads peaked at 1.2M in late April and saw a steady increase towards the end of the quarter. Weekly active users began at 5.8K and showed growth, finishing at 7.1K.
